WHat’s going on with Ubuntu? It looks like all the official Ubuntu sites are down, and Synaptic doesn’t work because it can’t connect to any of the official repositories. Any ideas?

Hello, I am a new to this Ubuntu thing and would like to get more aquainted with it. Recently, I had my computer upgraded with an additional hard drive specifically for Ubuntu use. On occasion, I will dabble in it just to try and get familiar with it, but I think I need some more work done on my computer to get it to run properly. When I surf the web, it is slower than molasses on a winter day. Most people I know have little to no knowledge of this uniquie operating ystem, so I am left alone when it comes to technical questions or otherwise. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Adam.

Try installing the ‘FasterFox’ extension for firefox
https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/1269/
The ‘Optimized’ Settings work best for me

How do I get back the wireless network icon in Ubuntu that is put in by default on system installation. I inadvertently deleted it since there was another icon on top of it. It is not in the System menu or the add to panel right click menu.

Thanks

Arthur

Verizon is about the only place you can get the authentic RIM product and matching door. Most other sites are out of stock and even when they are in stock they have the black battery door which looks like crap.
We supply a large range of rechargeable Laptop Battery packs for your Laptop , All Laptop Battery in our http://www.laptopbatterybbs.com are made with high quality cells.

The Sony laptop batteries cells are known to be defective. Lenovo will not gurantee us that
we have cells that are not defective. In fact they have confirmed that our Lenovo battery
packs have the same battery cells that are know to be contaminated. I am very upset that
Lenovo is not doing a similar recall of the known contaminated cells!

I am looking for help installing ifolder in ubuntu 7.10. Google brings me to this site but I must be an idiot because I cannot find any posts about ifolder. Please help the hopeless if you can.

18. Cmot - March 15, 2008

Hi, I’m new to Linux but am really tired of Bill Gates. On running the Ubuntu 7.10 it asks for a swap partition and a root partition and none of this looks like a normal dos partition setup so I don’t know what I’m supposed to be entering. What is it supposed to look like? Why isn’t this simpler for newbe’s?

After putting in random things it did install but only used half my harddrive. ?? One of the 1st things I did was try to play a simple avi file but it says I need to down load codecs.

Am I going to have to struggle to set every little thing up in Linux? Why if we want to displace Microsoft these things simpler or at least come with directions? I may not be a rocket sciencetist but I’m also not totaly new to computers. It seems to me like the Linux world considers this so basic that everyone knows it.

I tried this about a year ago with Fedora and just got fustrated and didn’t install anything. I have a poor internet connection out here in the country that connects at 21,000 baud So information searching is extremely hard to do.

19. Cmot - March 15, 2008

If anyone can send me directions or point me in the right direction to get help I would be very grateful. I really want to try giving Ubuntu a chance and then switching all our computers and laptops over.

Thanks Cmot…
